How do we teach feminist theories today?

Abstrakt

For several years, Martina Kopf (Department of African Studies) and Anke Graness (Department of Philosophy) have been teaching courses on feminist theory in intercultural perspective at the University of Vienna. These courses have been designed to serve as an introduction to feminist theories from Africa and the African Diaspora, Latin America, Asia and the Middle East, and to help familiarise the participants with the intercultural dimension of feminist debates and non-Western scholars’ critique of Euro-American feminist theory.
This conversation is an excerpt from a continuous process of reflecting on and self-assessing our approach to and practice of teaching feminist theories from an intercultural perspective; questioning whether we as white, European scholars are entitled to do so; and exploring ways to reach our goal of curriculum diversification.
