Abstrakt

Women¿s careers in the Tyrolean catering and accommodation branch. Everyday strategies and practices of female innkeepers

 

This text is meant to be a contribution to a gender-specific tourism studies and discusses the everyday life of women in the catering and accommodation branch. Above all I deal with the presented and/or applied strategies and practices of coping with their everyday situation and their way of life. 13 narrative biographical orientated interviews with female innkeepers (from the Tyrolean Zillertal) make up the main material for this survey. A specific responsibility is dedicated to women entrepreneurs concerning the culture of hospitality. More than that they are supposed to create a positive climate everywhere: they ought to guarantee the performance of the family, as a bases of the successful family-enterprise, as well as to lead the employees according to the rules of economy, but still in an understanding and kind manner. The women develop strategies, use and modify spaces of acting, they not only fulfil the roles reputed, but act consciously and alter or refuse them. Doing so it remains foremost the task of the female entrepreneurs to master, balance, equalize, repress and disguise the differences between private and commercial hospitality ¿ for all the people involved.

Another essential part of my work is reflection upon methods.
