T5.2: Survey on young people’s film preferences in Europe (months 13–18). Leading partner: JYU 6 PM. Participating partners: UNIVIE 9PM; UGENT 3PM; ELIAMEP 2PM; UCM 2PM; SSSA 3PM; UCA 2PM; UW 3PM.
The online survey aimed to grasp young people’s film preferences in partner countries. The respondents were selected
among students in secondary and university education (12–24-year-olds). Approximately half of the participants were secondary school students and the other half, university students. Each national dataset aimed to include at least 500 responses. The participants for the survey were recruited through institutions of learning, including the partner universities. The research sample reflects the diversity of the population in terms of gender and residence. The survey included questions (multiple-choice and free-form) on preferred genres, favourite and last seen films; their country of origin, linguistic and cultural preferences, and basic background information. A protocol was submitted to the competent ethics committee for approval. The protocol included the information sheet, privacy information on data management, and informed consent templates, ensuring volunteers' right to withdraw and exercise their data, with specific attention to children as research participants.
Methods: Online survey in several partner countries in servers sited in the EU, GDPR compliant; adult participants were directly recruited, unless parents’ consent was required by the national framework; statistical analysis, including crosstabulation and chi-square tests, and qualitative content analysis of national data were applied; and cross-analysis of national datasets were managed for results.
