Abstrakt

In this episode, we're joined by Daniela Waldburger, Swahili teacher and researcher at our department, as she uncovers the stories of ex-mineworkers in Lubumbashi (DRC) who "voluntarily" left the UMHK mining company in the 1990s. Using a participative methodology based on the concept of Baraza (sitting together and discussing), she examines how nostalgia shapes their memories of a life they recall as organized and secure. She also delves into themes of emotional and social loss, shifting gender roles, and the miners' struggle to adapt to new realities, offering a unique perspective on how communities negotiate their past to make sense of the present and future.
